Lake Tana is Ethiopia's largest lake and the source of the Blue Nile. Located in the Amhara region, it covers an area of over 3,000 square kilometers and is dotted with more than 30 islands, many of which are home to ancient monasteries and churches.
The monasteries on Lake Tana date back to the 14th century and are renowned for their beautiful frescoes, religious artifacts, and the "Zemene Mesafint" (Era of Princes) history. The lake is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, rich in biodiversity.
